Mountain Trike feature on BBC Countryfile as part of the National Parks 70th Anniversary celebration

At the end of March the Campaign for National Parks organised a special commemorative ramble in the Peak District to celebrate 70 years on from the 1949 Act of Parliament that established the Parks.

Mountain Trike all terrain wheelchair company are a corporate partner of the Campaign for National Parks – the only national charity dedicated to campaigning to protect, promote and improve accessibility in all of the National Parks of England and Wales.

We were delighted to attend the ramble, along with several of our Mountain Trike customers – to help showcase how the Mountain Trike wheelchair enables everyone to get out into the countryside – hundreds of people joined in the celebrations on the day.

The day started at the fantastic Peak District National Park Visitor Centre in Castleton. From there, Friends of the Peak District led the walk up the beautiful old road of Mam Tor (mother hill).

Half the group proceeded to the top of Hollins Cross, giving stunning views of the Edale and Hope valleys. While the other half proceeded to a fantastic cave experience at Peak Cavern.

We had heard a rumour that some of the team from BBC Countryfile were hoping to attend and to our delight (and some of our customers delight!) Countryfile presenter, Matt Baker, attended the day – along with the film crew who filmed the celebration and also interviewed some of our lovely Mountain Trike customers – which was very exciting.

BBC Countryfile is on BBC One at 19:00 on Sunday 7th April 2019 and will be available on iPlayer if you miss it (or want to watch it again!).

“BBC Countryfile will mark the 70th anniversary of the creation of our national parks. Matt will be looking at the history of their formation, and he’ll be joining a diverse group of walkers recreating historic photographs from the mass trespasses of the 1930s.

Tune in this Sunday, 7th April – we are very, very excited to be featured on BBC Countryfile (again) which will help highlight what is being done to make the National Parks more accessible such as the online information available about miles without stiles – and obviously showcasing our amazing all terrain wheelchairs which help those less able access the great outdoors.

If you missed the episode (featuring Mountain Trike), which was aired on 7th April 2019, then it is available on iPlayer for 28 days, click link here, to start watching.

Alternatively, the programme is available via YouTube (slightly poorer quality), but if you missed the iPlayer deadline or live internationally you can catch up on the programme, here.

We were very fortunate that our all terrain wheelchairs were featured on BBC Countryfile back in 2015 and John Craven took the Mountain Trike for a test ride and he was very impressed (check it out here). We were delighted to be able to chat to Matt Baker about our specially adapted off-road wheelchairs and for him to be as equally impressed!
